What do we do at Pretoria Care for the Aged?
At Pretoria Care for the Aged we believe every elderly person deserves to be treated with care and respect, and to feel safe in the environment they stay. Today elderly people are more visible, more active and more independent as before. They live longer and enjoy good health longer. However, as the population of South Africa grows, so grows the hidden problems of abuse, exploitation and neglect of the elderly.
Through our developmental social work and ageing programs we respect the rights of the elderly and strive to provide the necessary help and support to the elderly and other vulnerable persons in Pretoria and surrounding areas. At Pretoria Care for the Aged we commit ourselves to bring hope, care, support and professional services to thousands of older persons living outside residential facilities.
We encourage the elderly to live as independent members of the community in their own homes for as long as possible; and provide a number of Community Based Care and Support Services to the elderly and their families in order to achieve this goal. In order to make our services accessible to the elderly in our community, we have 10 satellite offices and 6 service centres in and around Pretoria.
Social work services are the vital log in Pretoria Care for the Aged’s wheel of services. In times when older persons have become victims of abuse, are battling to find safe living arrangements, are unable to deal with losses, declining resources and loneliness, social workers are the last support base for many of these elderly.
The staff of Pretoria Care for the Aged is proud of the Social Work Services we have rendered for the past 48 years. We believe that we make a difference to those in need through our Community Based Social Work programs. At Pretoria Care for the Aged we see each elderly, irrespective of their needs and problems, as a person worthy of dignity and respect.
Community Based Social Work Programs is an expensive and time consuming service, but in the final analysis, it makes the world of difference between hope and despair or life and death to those vulnerable elderly in need!
