Welcome to the website of Pretoria Care for the Aged.
We invite you to learn more about our organisation and the important work we do!
What do we do at Pretoria Care for the Aged?
At Pretoria Care for the Aged we believe every elderly person deserves to be treated with care and respect, and to feel safe in the environment they stay. Today elderly people are more visible, more active and more independent as before. They live longer and enjoy good health longer. However, as the population of South Africa grows, so grows the hidden problems of abuse, exploitation and neglect of the elderly.
I believe that if you want staff to do a proper job, you have to give them proper "tools" to work with. Three years ago our social workers did not have access to computers, internet or cell phones. Today all our offices have access to e-mail, we have a website and are able to receive online donations.
The labour legislation does not deal directly with the issue of retirement age. However, it does say that no one may be unfairly discriminated against because of their age. This means that the employer and employee must agree on a retirement age.
If you are already receiving an old age, disability or war veteran's grant and you are unable to care for yourself, to the point where you need full-time care from someone else, then you may get an additional monthly payment from the government called a grant-in-aid. You cannot get the grant-in-aid on its own; it must be in addition to one of these main grants.
